GSPCO VERSALITY DAY – SATURDAY AUGUST 5
Crooked Creek Conservation Club

The club will be holding it’s annual Versatility Day on Saturday, August 5th starting around 10.00 AM
until late afternoon. Come on out for a day of working with your dogs & puppies and visiting with fellow
members. You can do or learn about field work, hunt tests, retrieving, agility, water retrieves, nose work
or what ever you want to work on. Club members will be available to assist with whatever you need. Birds
will be available for purchase. There will be a potluck cookout after a short meeting (bring a dish or desert to share)
the club will provide the hot dogs or brats and hamburgers. Come for the day or a couple of hours. This day is open
to club members and guests.

Hunt test request for help
Members: Need help for May 6 & 7th Hunt Test. Our raffle will be a Booze Box we need
donations of bottles of booze, if you would like to donate, I will be in Tri-Valley at the
end of the month or you could call me for pick up.
We are looking for a gunner, and helpers in the field and kitchen both.

Hunt Test May 6th & 7th: Premium Available
The GSPC of Ohio is having a Hunt Test at the Oak Ridge Pointing Dog Club grounds.
It will be held on May 6th & 7th, below is the link to the Premium and letter. It’s a great way for new members to introduce their dog into competition. The entire Hunt Test is viewable from an above observation platform so it is fun to watch these dogs run through their tests.

The GSPCO invites you to attend our Spring Championship and Weekend Horseback Field Trial at the Tri-Valley Wildlife Area in Dresden, Ohio on April 24 – 30, 2017.
CLOSING DATE TO SUBMIT ENTRIES for both events on Saturday April 22, 2017!
All entries must be completed in full and received, with payment enclosed, by 5:00 pm (ET)
Make checks payable to: GSPCO.
Email entries will be accepted, but payment must be received prior to the drawing! If your payment has not been received, you will not be drawn.
Camping: The facilities at these grounds are now equipped with electricity, however, there are NO electric hookups available for camping rigs. Generators will be needed! Water is available for dogs and horses. Please bring your own drinking water.
GSPCO is responsible for removing all trash from the grounds after our trial. Therefore, it is your responsibility to remove your garbage from the Field Trial Grounds – DO NOT dump your trash in the trash barrels on the grounds. Please take it home with you. Thanks for your cooperation on this policy.
It is participants’ obligation to leave occupied areas in the same condition as it was upon their arrival. Any discrepancies must be brought to the attention of the GSPCO FT committee as soon as possible. Should any participant be in violation of this policy, they agree to pay $20 to the GSPCO, which will be applied to grounds clean up and maintenance. By signing the entry form, all participants agree to this policy.
All participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Ohio (GSPCO) and it’s officers from and against any claims arising out of any and all personal injuries, property damage, other losses, or expenses incurred, suffered, or sustained by any person or entity, during, or in connection with, activities held on the dates stated with the GSPCO. By signing the entry form, all participants agree to this policy.
A Light Breakfast and Lunch will be available on the grounds daily. Dinner will be catered on Saturday night.

Instructions to the Field Trial, Listing of Hotels, and a copy of the Disaster Plan have been included with your premium.
Rooms are available at hotels in Zanesville or Coshocton. Remember there is a 48 hour cancellation notice or you will be charged for your room.

Support needed to oppose new High Volume Dog definition
Mr. Sexton from US Alliance is asking for our help in opposing current legislation that is going before the Ohio House and Senate. They want to change the wording on the High Volume Dog from its present definition of 9 dog and 60 puppies produced to: 5 intact females if one puppy is sold to a retail pet store you would be consider high volume or 5 intact female and 60 puppies sold. This is aimed at puppy mills but will have an effect on breeders if it is passed
He would like to have ABDCO’s support to suppress the bill until next session they are trying to push it through and add it on to either house bill 513 or senate bill 311 before the end of this session. We need to act immediately. Asking you to contact your individual clubs for support also. He can do a conference call to explain in more detail if we need him to. Need your input ASAP He would like to be able to show a united front opposed to this bill. Additionally they are asking for alternate definition from us.

| JOIN THE GSPCA IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TICK BORNE DISEASE GSPCA TO PARTICIPATE IN TICK BORNE DISEASE RESEARCH – CHALLENGES MEMBER CLUBS AND INDIVIDUALS TO MATCH FUNDING The GSPCA Board of Directors and the Health and Welfare Committee, in cooperation with the Canine Health Foundation (CHF), announce participation in a large scale research program to better understand and combat tick borne diseases. In order to involve all of the GSP community, part of this effort is to engage and challenge the GSPCA Member Clubs throughout the country to contribute as well. Between September 7 and October 31, the GSPCA will pledge $7,500 which it hopes will be matched by contributions of $100 to $150 from each of the 60 Member Clubs. When a combined total of $15,000 is reached, the American Kennel Club (AKC) will match that dollar for dollar for a possible amount of $30,000 contributed to this important research. Individuals concerned with finding a solution to prevent and treat tick borne illnesses are also urged to contribute toward this match through a convenient link on the GSPCA web site or by mailing a check to the CHF at: AKC Canine Health Foundation GSP Donor Advised Fund P.O. Box 900061 Raleigh, NC 27675 All on-line contributions will receive an acknowledgement which indicates this is a tax deductible contribution. All contributions will go into a designated GSPCA fund at CHF so that progress toward the donation goal can be tracked. This is a tremendous opportunity to have maximum impact by leveraging many small contributions into a very large amount, and presents a very significant return on investment for the Member Clubs. GSPCA members who are also members of regional Member Clubs are urged to contact their clubs to learn more about their club’s plans to contribute. Tick-borne illnesses affect people and their dogs throughout the country, often creating symptoms long after the initial tick bite, and sometimes affecting the body’s organs and immune systems. Although Lyme disease gets much of the attention, people and their dogs can also be affected by ehrlichiosis, babesiosis, anaplasmosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and hepatozoonosis . To make matters more complicated, these viral strains are mutating – for example there are now 12 different strains of Lyme disease alone. The CHF has declared research into tick borne diseases as its major funding thrust for 2016. They have already announced five grants to researchers (See the list HERE) and have asked breed clubs to continue the momentum of fund raising to support more grants through the end of the year. The six weeks of fundraising will be accompanied by educational articles on the GSPCA Facebook page and a special section on the GSPCA website. These educational materials are offered to all Member Clubs to use with their own club sites and newsletters. Ticks are especially active in the early spring and fall, so it is appropriate for the GSPCA to launch this new program at a time when its members are thinking about going into the fields with their dogs.
