Welcome to the website of the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Ohio, Inc. We hope you find it enlightening and entertaining. We would like to tell you a little bit about our club. The GSPCO is one of the oldest GSP clubs in America, so as a group we have survived a pretty long time. One of the reasons that is true is because we all love our breed, we work very hard to promote it and we are passionate about what we do. GSP’s are a very versatile breed. We have members who have or are currently competing with their dogs in conformation, obedience, field trials, hunting tests and tracking, to name some of the AKC related events you will find them in. Shorthairs have been trained as protection dogs, search dogs, trained to pull sleds, carts and skiers. Some are therapy dogs. Many members also have their dogs registered with American Field to compete in that venue, some are also registered with UKC to work in obedience and dock diving competitions. Some people work in NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) in their field venue. So there is a great deal of knowledge here to share. We are an AKC registered club and a member of the parent club, the GSPCA. We do support and promote AKC registration and AKC parent club policies. Everyone does their own thing but with the versatility in our club it will give you a perfect opportunity to try something you may not have tried before under the guidance of a veteran.
We hold an annual training session and picnic. We have an annual awards banquet and we meet bi-monthly currently in the Aurora area. We put on at least 2 field trials a year, sometimes 3. We hold 4 hunting tests per year (1 spring weekend and 1 fall weekend). We support the GSP entry at 2 all-breed shows each year and hold the GSPCO Specialty once yearly in connection with an all-breed show.
That should give you a pretty good overview of what this club does. We welcome new members. If you are interested in joining, please contact us or fill out the application at this site and submit it.
